In Harmony With Nature

How do we ensure quality produce year after year? By treating the land, our crops, and our employees with the respect each deserves.

Careful Planting
Long before a peach orchard is ready for harvest, it begins with trees no more than two feet high. Each sapling is nurtured with proper soil, water, and nutrients, and pruned to ensure a healthy tree with generous branches. Four years later, the peaches are ready to harvest, and that tree will continued to yield fruit for up to 15 years.

While strawberries don’t take nearly as long to fully grow and blossom, they, too, must be carefully monitored throughout the year before berries can be picked. Our strawberry plants are planted annually, from mid- to late September, on mounds of earth covered with plastic to insulate and protect roots from winter’s chill. By April, strawberries are ripe for picking and eating.

Timely Harvests
To ensure superior flavor, Belue Farms’ peaches are picked at their peak of ripeness, from June through mid-September. During harvest season, over 50 employees help pick and maintain our produce, so our Market always features the freshest selections. We harvest strawberries from mid-April to the first of June, and berries are picked daily.

Going Green
Because our business relies on the Earth, we take great care to ensure our farming practices are as green as our crops. This begins with efforts to improve soil and water resources to sustain no-till farming. Our dedication to no-till farming not only protects the environment, but yields a healthier, more profitable harvest. Because seeds are planted directly over the remnants of the previous year’s crop, without plowing, no-till farming minimizes soil erosion, plus reduces manpower and energy costs.
